Who we are

Extended Hands is a non-profit organization based in Montreal that aims to meet the needs of low-income households while providing them with the social skills needed to properly reintegrate into our society.

We treat our neighbours as we would want them to treat us. Our organization is built on principles of accountability, integrity, honesty and transparency.

In these difficult economic times, the number of people who need help has increased considerably. With this demand, we have seen a rise in the number of people registering each week at Extended Hands. Since becoming accredited with Moisson Montréal, we are able to provide more assistance than ever before.

We have put strict policies and budget reviews in place to ensure that every form of assistance benefits the people who need it, while keeping administrative costs very low. As a registered non-profit organization, we do our best to collaborate with other organizations to serve our community of Lachine and the surrounding area.

Join us on Wednesdays from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Please bring your own bags to carry the food and items. Join us on Thursdays from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM for our free community breakfast.

Our History

We have a Mission

In the city of Lachine and its surroundings, many people are in desperate need of help.

We wish to meet their needs by providing a free community breakfast as well as a food distribution once a week through our community care centre.

We also offer clothing and household items, when available, that have been generously donated to us.

Our Beginnings

In February 2005, Extended Hands launched its outreach program in its former premises in NDG, Quebec. Due to a lack of time and space, the organization began serving the community once a month, offering free hot meals. After carrying out this function for a year, Extended Hands moved to Lachine, Quebec, and began serving the community.

With larger facilities, we were able to run our services twice a week, again offering free hot meals while making clothing, etc. readily available, all through sponsorship and donations. We began to increase the number of volunteers and the number of people in the community in need of assistance. However, we could not continue helping people with a limited food supply due to the rapid growth.

We decided to take another step forward. In September 2008, we became a registered non-profit charitable organization. We were now able to offer tax receipts to all our generous donors. In addition, we became accredited with Moisson Montréal and are now a proud beneficiary of food distribution to continue serving the people of Lachine.

We are grateful for our achievements so far, but we aim to do much more. We believe that with the help of individuals, sponsors and businesses, we will reach our goals.
